Transport model for multi-phase systems

TNPA, New Multi Products Pipeline Project – spread of light non-aqueous phase liquids in the storage area of Durban Harbour, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The subject of modelling was the examination of the possibility of LNAPL spread into the space of the foundation pit being drained. The problem was addressed at two stages: (1) assembly of a flow model using the MODFLOW code, the intention which of which was to determine the hydraulic gradient between the drained foundation pit and the space hit by LNAPL, (2) assembly of original a multi-phase model that represented the two-dimensional cross section of the space in question. To this end, we used the COMSOL model, in a “Two-Phase Darcy’s Physics” modification.
